Chapter 3 New Tools
NOTES:
-Choosing new careers is all about adaptability.
-We should provide these new tools to our students so that they are prepared for new challenges.
-Because these new technologies and new capabilities engage and motivate students, we can use them to educate them.
-Friedman identified the world as flattners. First the new technologies and the new processes made possible or enhanced by these technologies. Second are the new ways of working and anew playing field for doing business. THird is a whole new set of people who have emerged onto the playing field for doing business.
-We have to accept that in part it is to ensure that our citizens are ready to be intelligent employees. We may want to think in terms of wa well-rounded education for its own sake, but that education has to included a focus on the skills and abilities that students will need if the next generation is to remain positive competitive in a changing world.
-Education is changing.
-The role of teachers will be to guide students in using the new tools for academically rigorous investigations and presentations.
-As educators, we have to recognize that students' use of technology is stronger and work from our own strength, which is pedagogy.
-Watch the video on eutopia.org "2009 Digital Odyssey"

Chapter 7 Online Safety Security

Chapter 8 Systemic Issues

Chapter 9 New Schools
CHAPTER 7 NOTES (4 A's):
Chapter 7 Onlie Safety and Security
Assumption: Parents knew it was their responsibility to guide their students to the new. In fact the schools don't teach it a lot.
Agree: We should take more time to express the importance of safety and security on the internet. Parents are the first teachers.
Argue: It's the parents who should know what is going on with their child's education including school technology.
Aspire: To have faculty and staff on the same page as page in regards to internet safety and security.

CHAPTER 8 NOTES (4 A's):

Chapter 8 Systemic Issues
Assumption: Every student has access to technology
Agree: Blogging and social networking increase comprehenion and communication in ESOL students
Argue: What is the reality of actually having the equpiment (the problem with the "IPOD" brand vs. Microsoft
Aspire: All students have equal access

CHAPTER 9 NOTES (4 A's):
Chapter 9 New School
Assumption: The assumes a) that there is a funding to bring this technology utopia to fruition and b) that parents will be financially able to support and encourage their child's use of technology.
Agree: We agree with the author's statement that, "The need exists to expand universal service to provide poor and rural areas with broadband." This applies to us because so many of our students do not have acess to the internet at home.
Argue: We disagree with the author's vision that our students will be able to complete in the global market because, as of now, our country does not fund education as much as it should. We continue to lag behind other countries in terms of technology as they continue to make cuts in educational funding.
Aspire: We will aspire to suscribe to the author's vision of having technology integrated classrooms if we are given the ways and means to achieve this lofty goal..
